Grades improved and self-confidence went up – Success Story!

“I, D.R., the mother of T., am very pleased to write this success story. T. started math tutoring at Community Learning Center around the end of the fall quarter in 7th grade. She is very lucky to have Ms. Sioux as her math tutor. T. was getting average grades when she started. After she started her tutoring with Ms. Sioux, not only her grades improved but her self-confidence went up. She is now more and more interested in learning math and English. Now, she is in 8th grade and she is taking 9th grade Algebra and 9th grade English.”

“I am very happy and I highly recommend Community Learning Center tutoring. I am very thankful to the entire staff and heartily appreciate all the support and assistance from Ms. Sioux.” –D.R. (mother of 8th grade student)

Math Tutoring a Success!

“I’ve used the Community Learning Center’s tutoring program for my daughter who had been struggling with certain subjects in school. She was able to get personalized attention in math and science where she was having the hardest time. The tutor (Debbie) is very patient and really made sure my daughter got the concepts of what she was studying and could use the information. My daughter’s grades went from D’s and C’s to A’s and B’s. She was much happier and looked forward to her tutoring each week. CLC was also flexible and allowed me to use a Saturday morning slot for tutoring since I couldn’t fit it into my schedule during the week.”

“This is a really great place whose focus is on improving education so kids really understand and can apply what they’ve learned, which I often find is sorely lacking in regular schooling.” –G.L. (mother of 5th grade student)

Adult Student Wins Big Learning the Origin of Math Terminology!

“After years of being thrown terms such as percentage and decimal, someone (CLC tutor Sioux) finally broke down their meanings and origins to me. Learning that ‘dec’ was based on every tenth, and ‘cent’ was based on every hundredth as their Latin meaning, was very interesting.

Also, learning all the different ways to write a fraction just to find out they’d all come to the same conclusion makes me wonder why we can’t decide to just use one of the ways to write them. Either way, very interesting and I do look forward to finding more meanings behind all these words and numbers.”

Pro Tutoring Student Success

“E. had an 83% in pre-algebra before we started tutoring with Sioux. That doesn’t sound too bad, right? But that was only because her homework was so good. She was flunking every test! After just a few weeks of tutoring, her grade is up to a 96% and her last two tests were A’s. She has so much more confidence about her math abilities. I can’t thank you enough! H.S. Teen Athlete Success!

Community Learning Center and We Believe in Me saving lives together!

Community Learning Center has partnered with the We Believe in Me Foundation to help teen athletes improve their skills, their grades and therefore, their chances of being accepted by universities. As a result, they also improve their ability to continue playing football through college. Community Learning Center helps these students improve their ACT and SAT scores so that they are better candidates; we teach them the study skills needed to be able succeed in every area of life. We Believe in Me helps your athlete through the college process, including how to improve your college application and work with recruiters.

Here is another example of a math success from a Community Learning Center and We Believe in Me teen athlete:

“I feel like you [my volunteer tutor] really helped me understand Algebra and its symbols. You broke each of them down to me by showing me, and having me find the meaning of the symbols. Then you explained how to set each problem up and remember how they are supposed to be set up. This became a real eye opener for me in Algebra.”D.M. (Community Learning Center and We Believe in Me student)

Community Learning Center and We Believe in Me

Group shot of We Believe in Me students (from above)Back in the spring of 2015,  Community Learning Center (CLC) began working with the We Believe in Me Foundation (WBIM) to help talented young athletes who did not have the academic scores necessary for admission to college. Brenda McCarthy and Jerry Wunsch, co-founders of We Believe in Me, have been working with CLC staff to get students qualified. Jerry was an offensive lineman for 9 seasons in the NFL with the Tampa Bay Bucs and the Seattle Seahawks.

Our Community Learning Center and We Believe in Me athletes have been working hard to improve their skills, and therefore their grades. Here is a success from of one of our student athletes:

“The Community Learning Center has helped me tremendously. Before I joined this family, I was struggling but I fought my way through and started studying and focusing on my grades and the ACT test all summer. I did virtual classes while others were having fun and enjoying their summer.

I got B’s in a full year of English. Without any of these people that entered my life, I would not be going to the University of Akron.

These people are great and they love their jobs. They worked to help me prepare for the ACT and earn a score of 24, which is excellent!

Thanks to everyone who believed in me and never gave up on me!”–D.G. (Teen Athlete Student)

CLC in Broward County recognized for excellence!

Eddie Powell, the Community Learning Center Program Director of Broward County, was honored by the Broward County School Board for his innovative “I Got Paid 2 Read 2” program.  This program motivated hundreds of students to turn off the TV and pick up a book!  Eddie brought together community business sponsors who provided the funding needed for the food, certificates, $2 bills and promotion of the program.

Eddie has run the Community Learning Center after-school tutoring program for the past two years.  The Community Learning Center state office in Clearwater is currently working with Eddie to establish an after-school program in Broward County which will provide leadership and character education as well as art and physical fitness.  Congratulations Eddie and Broward CLC!
